Q - What kind of Journey?

A: "Journey” is a gathering of teens from the Nebraska and Iowa West districts of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LCMS).The event runs, Nov. 18-20, 2011, with activities Friday night, Saturday all-day, and Sunday morning.Participants will consider the challenges of our journey here on earth, the promises of our Lord Jesus for salvation and guidance along our journey of faith, and consider the implication that brings for our life choices.

Q – Who is invited?

A: - High school students currently enrolled in 9th – 12th grades at the time of the gathering (Nov. 2011) are encouraged to register, along with adult chaperones. This "Journey” is a "friend event,” so open the church doors to friends and the unchurched!

Q - What’s the cost and where will I stay?

A: Registration for Journey is $115 per person.Hotel accommodations are available at the Embassy Suites and Courtyard by Marriot conference center in LaVista, NE (outside Omaha) for $115 per night, sleeping 4 persons. Our challenge to you – consider having youth group members toss in an extra 5-10% to defray costs for those friends and unchurched you invite!

Q – Are meals provided for the event?

A: Arrangements are being finalized for a meal provision at the conference center, likely Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner – additional details will be forthcoming.Attending groups and participants should make plans and money allocation for their own Friday evening supper and Sunday lunch in-transit.

Q – How do I register?

A: Registration packets will be distributed to all district LCMS congregations in late summer, 2011, with registration proceeding through October, 2011.No online registration will be available.

Q –Do we need to bring any additional money? A small display area is routinely included with the gathering event.Personal money can be used onsite for souvenir selections such as gathering band CDs and t-shirts, and various souvenir items from Nebraska area and Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod service organizations.Money for Sunday worship offering is encouraged.

Q – How many adults should we bring and what will they do?

A: Adults are the loving, caring frontline support for these gathering events. They partner with District counseling and pastoral support to pray for, encourage, and comfort teens throughout the weekend, attending to any unexpected needs, hurts, or joys.Specific breakout opportunities for adults will be included among the Saturday activities. The gathering team requests a minimum of 1 adult per 8 youth (considering lodging); a ratio of 1:7 is preferred.

Q – Can you explain that logo art?

A: We in 2 Corinthians 5, "We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight…so whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.”Here are the words of our logo design artist, Miss Rachel Dermody, Graphic Design candidate, Concordia University, Seward, NE:

"Romans 8:35-39 is a powerful and comforting passage…we are connected by the blood Christ sacrifices for us, which is represented by the red in the cross in the "J” of "Journey.”The text seems to be moving, which represents…our sin and the continuous work of sanctification with the Spirit. The only clear hope is the cross of Christ…We have the comfort and hope of being in and with Christ. This is our goal as we live each day in this life.We are people without homes on earth.Instead, eternity is set in our hearts and we find rest in Christ.”

Q – Where can we find more/ongoing info updates?

A: Visit the gathering website at www.neyouth.org (planned to go live 3/15/11) or link through the Nebraska District (www.ndlcms.org) or Iowa West District (www.iowawest.org) websites.

Q – Why are Hawkeyes and Huskers in a Big 10 conference with "Legends” and "Leaders” divisions?

A: Who knows? They’re definitely on a journey of their own…
